Is it legal?
Currently unregulated - no legislation introduced yet.
No plug-in solar legislation has been introduced in Louisiana as of the 2026 legislative session. Plug-in solar currently sits in a legal gray area: utilities can require interconnection review, permits, and fees, and there are no explicit statutory protections for consumers.

What You Can Save in Louisiana
Louisiana's average residential electricity price is about 12.5 cents per kWh (EIA, 2026 average). A 180 W kit generating about 270 kWh a year could save roughly $34 a year; a 360 W kit roughly $68.
Those are modest numbers on their own, but Louisiana's plentiful sunshine means the panel produces more hours per day than in most states. The kit more than pays for itself over its life with no roof work or contractor needed.
