Can I use my solar panels with a portable power station?

Yes. Our panels use standard MC4 connectors, the same fitting the rest of the solar industry uses, so they will connect to most portable power stations either directly or through an adapter cable. In that arrangement, you do not use the microinverter that came with the kit. The microinverter exists to feed household AC into an outlet; a power station wants raw DC from the panels.
Check your power station's solar input range before buying. The panel's figures (around 40 V for our balcony panels)must sit inside the station's limits.
Do I need to make my own cables?
No. Pre-made MC4 extension cables and MC4-to-XT60 adapters are widely sold, and for most setups they are the simpler path. Making your own means buying solar-rated DC wire and crimping MC4 connectors, which is a useful DIY skill but adds a tool purchase and a learning curve.
Can I extend the solar cables?
Yes, MC4 extension cables in various lengths are widely available online. Balcony panels are smaller than the typical solar panel, so the lesser of the available wire gauges (typically AWG 12) is sufficient.
My panels are outside and the station is indoors. Is that a problem?
In this setup, you need a route for the DC cable that does not damage the cable or the building, and the station should be somewhere ventilated. Members run cables through window seals, vents and existing conduit.
Can I switch between the two setups?
Yes. Some members run to the microinverter in normal use and move them to a power station as their emergency setup when the grid power goes out.
