Proud to be working with Scott Wiener to announce SB 868

California isn't just where I work. It's home. I was born here. I grew up in public schools here. So when I say I'm proud to be working with Senator Scott Wiener to announce SB 868, I mean it personally as much as professionally.

What SB 868 Does

SB 868 establishes a clear framework for plug-in solar units in California — how they're defined, how homeowners can use them, and how utilities must account for the energy they generate. Right now there's regulatory ambiguity around plug-in solar units, particularly how they interact with net energy metering. That ambiguity creates uncertainty for consumers, and uncertainty kills adoption. This bill clears that up.

Why Senator Wiener

Senator Wiener has a track record of taking on hard, important problems in California policy and finding workable legislative solutions. He understands technology and housing. He understands that clean energy access isn't just an environmental issue — it's an economic one. When we first talked with his office, we found a team that had already been thinking about this space and wanted to get the legislation right.

What This Means for Bright Saver

At Bright Saver, we make plug-in NEM expansion kits for California homeowners with existing rooftop solar. Four 250-watt panels, 45-minute install, no electrician, starting at $1,499. SB 868 is the policy foundation that lets us scale. When the rules are clear, more consumers buy. When more consumers buy, costs come down. When costs come down, more people can access clean energy. California has a chance to lead here, the way it's led on so many clean energy questions before.
